The Churchyard at St Martin’s
has been closed for burials since the middle of the 19th century.
There are some interesting monuments, including the Boodle Tomb which has recently been restored
The responsibility for the upkeep belongs to the Town Council who are working with the Churchwardens and PCC to develop a pleasant and tranquil oasis in the town centre.
At St Peters, the Churchyard is still open for the burial of residents of the parish, or interment of their ashes. It is a beautiful and serene place in the middle of the countryside.
Other pages on the website give some general details on burial at St Peters and on caring for a grave. There is a lot of useful information in the Chelmsford Diocese Churchyard Handbook (click on the attachment on this page).
